NATIONAL CONSULTATION IN SPAIN

The activity has been carried out on 30 October 2018 in Madrid, with the participation of 16 persons in representation of different organizations and institutions, including academics, NGOs, IOs, the ombudsman office of Andalucía and the child protection systems at regional level.

The activity has been designed with a particular format, with the purpose of adapting the national consultation to the Spanish framework and of obtaining a reliable picture of the existing situation.

The aim of the working session was to explore and assess foster care of unaccompanied migrant children in Spain and favoring its implementation, by fostering a joint reflection and debate, also considering the lack of practice in Spain on the issue.

Thus, some participants made initial brief presentations (10-15 minutes each) regarding different aspects related to the foster care of unaccompanied migrant children that led to explore and assess the existing national context and current challenges. The format of the working sessions permitted to take into consideration different perspectives, practices and realities across the Spanish territory, also in light of the differences existing at local and regional level on, i.e., the numbers of arrivals, profiles, individual needs, implemented practices, etc.
